(Orange). Imagine going in for psychotherapy, removing your shoes and socks and sitting cross-legged on the floor in a darkened room with your eyes closed. Not exactly the picture most people conjure up when they think about the traditional counseling session. Holistic therapist Dr. Lynn Kelley does just this with some of her clients.
Although she also provides traditional therapy, many of Kelley's clients enjoy the synergistic benefits of Yoga, Meditation and Hypnosis. Combining one or more of these treatment types often proves to be remarkably beneficial. Just ask Lauren, a recovering alcoholic, who found the combination of Yoga, Hypnotherapy and Guided Visualization to be just what she needed.
"I'm normally wound really tight," says the 44-year-old pet groomer. "With regular psychotherapy, I usually run into the office and rattle off about my week. Yoga, hypnotherapy and guided visualization make me slow down and breathe, and helped me to access my subconscious. It's made a big difference in how I feel about myself. People have noticed. They say I'm walking and behaving in a much more positive and contented fashion."
Kelley became convinced about the benefits of combining therapies to treat a variety of psychological conditions after spending years in the medical arena as a registered nurse.
"One ever present component of illness and healing always stands out--and that's a person's psychological status," she says. "As a nurse, I knew that many medications have a synergistic effect. This fact made me realize that combining therapeutic methods would create powerful results, and it does."
Kelley has a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and combines therapies in her Orange and Anaheim-Hills-based company, YOGA TALK. With the added value of a medical background and exposure to multiple physical conditions that can affect mental health, Kelley treats the whole person, focusing on healing, balancing and unifying a person's mind, body and spirit. |
