DR. LYNN KELLEY'S PATH |
|
A holistic therapist who specializes in hypnotherapy, Talk Therapy, therapeutic yoga, meditation and aromatherapy, Dr. Lynn Kelley has a doctorate in psychology. Over the years Kelley has studied with a variety of yoga teachers, including Diane Harmon and Rodney Yee. Dr. Kelley also recently completed the fairly new and progressive Yoga Studies Program offered at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Kelley started her career as a registered nurse. While healing sick individuals fulfilled Kelley, she discovered that our mind, body and spirit are interconnected when it comes to a full, active, healthy life. "I became convinced about the benefits of combining therapies to treat a variety of psychological and physiological conditions after what I saw in the medical arena," she says. "One ever present component of illness and healing always stood out--and that was a person's psychological status. As a nurse, I knew that many medications, when administered together, have a synergistic effect. This fact made me realize that combining therapeutic methods, such as psychotherapy and yoga therapy, could create powerful results, and it does."
After studying the powerful, calming and centering effects of true yoga, Kelley came to see that nurturing our spirit is essential to our health and well-being. "After years of promoting healing through medicine, I discovered that the state of our spirit is also critical to our overall health, and it cannot be ignored when treating a patient," she says. "I see spirit as the glue that binds all of us, and it is entwined with soul. Spirit isn't the intellectual view, or our roles in life, such as parent and employee, but rather the real person deep inside each of us. I now see that spirit is the free and mobile portion of our soul that can transcend and touch others and our soul remains fixed and is constant within us." With this in mind, Kelley treats the whole person, focusing on healing, balancing, and unifying a person's mind, body and spirit.
Dr. Kelley's treatment method is straight-forward and down-to-earth. "I'm not afraid to share the fact that my own spiritual path has been a bumpy one with many twists and turns," she says. "I've often taken the more difficult, less traveled roads, and as a result I've experienced my own share of highs and lows. All of this life experience comes into play when I treat my patients." |
